An unidentified student scared student Tuesday morning after driving his car into the Quad, parked in the grass, pulled out all his belongings, jacked up his car and then walked away with his dog, leaving the engine running. LSU Police examined the car with the aid of a police K-9. The driver was soon found by LSU Police.

A University student was apprehended this morning after allegedly causing a disturbance in the Quad involving a blue Mercedes, a gasoline can and other assorted items.

The LSU Police Department confirmed Storm Erie was taken into custody in the Design Building shortly after officers responded to calls describing "an illegally parked car with a gas can on the top" in the Quad, according to Sgt. Kevin Scott, LSUPD Spokesman.

Scott said officers first received a call about Erie's illegally parked blue Mercedes at 9:05 a.m. He said LSUPD was on the scene by 9:08 a.m.

Multiple witnesses said it took LSUPD more than 20 minutes to arrive on the scene. Scott said this report is a discrepancy and said LSUPD phone records show a 3 minute response time.

Scott said LSUPD was simply responding to reports of an illegally parked car and said officers didn't know Erie was acting irrationally or dumping assorted items — including bongo drums, a spade, a box of checkers, a set of blueprints and about 10 other items— onto the Quad.

Scott said there were no signs of drugs in the vehicle or on Erie's person when he was apprehended.

Erie had a gas can with him, but Scott said there was very little gas in the can when they discovered it. He said there was no sign the gasoline had been used for anything dangerous.

Witnesses said Erie fled the scene with his dog before police arrived.

Students said Erie was speaking and acting irrationally on the scene.

"He had music playing, but he wasn't screaming at anybody or threatening anyone," said Rebecca Giller, animal sciences graduate student. "He wasn't saying anything."

Other students were more concerned about their safety.

"I really though he was going to start shooting or something," said Kandice Tyler, psychology junior, who witnessed the suspect drive his car into the quad.

Though there were some reports from media sources and second-hand witnesses about possible threats of violence, Scott said officers found no comments from witnesses about any dangerous activity.

Scott said officers are investigating those possible threats, however, to see if he posed any threat to campus before being apprehended.

Scott said no emergency text messages were sent because initial reports of the event did not present "an immediate response from the community or on an immediate threat to life."

Scott said Erie was taken into custody and "transported voluntarily by Baton Rouge EMS" for medical review.

All the items were returned to the vehicle before it was towed from the Quad.

Thanks for the awesome conclusion. I will now dump all the information I have observed because it is irrelevant to my local universe.. except one lesson
Expect anything.

And really, guns? are we SO LAZY that we cant even walk up to someone to stab them anymore? We need to be able to kill from our couch!

An emergency text message was not needed. The guy would have already been arrested before a text could have even gone out! So quit trying to find something to complain about. The only people in danger were the ones in the quad at the time of the incident and obviously they knew something was happening.

With response times of 15 minutes and the recent shooting at a Alabama college when will the liberals and the naive open their eyes and realize college campuses should not be a gun free zone.

My friend and I were talking to an older man in the quad who said he had almost been ran over by Storm and he told us he had just called the police. It was at least 15 minutes, plenty of time to unload his car or do actual damage had his motives been such, until there was any sign of them. Storm had even left before any type of crown began to form. I was very unimpressed with the amount of time it took for police to arrive on the scene, yet I feel the police had no reason to alert the students immediately. We stayed on the scene from the time he began throwing things until his car was towed, in the time it would have taken to alert the students, the matter would have been over, with suspect in cuffs. If the police hadn't been able to find him, THEN would a text message would have been appropriate. Even if a text had been sent out at the time of the first calls, what would have been an appropriate text? "WARNING! Man on the loose, we're not really sure what he's doing but avoid the quad, there might be danger, but maybe not." Then students could be complaining of misuse of the emergency text message system, instead of the slow response in today's Reveille. What else should the police be responsible for texting the students about? Should I be expecting a text every time a student decides to be driving drunk after a tailgate or the extremists in Free Speech Alley are yelling at students threats of their eternal damnation?!?!? Although the police would've been correct in sending a text had they known about his unusual activity, they had no idea of any imminent danger occurring. Hell, the whole time I thought the entire thing was a misunderstood artistic statement.

there is no data regarding whether this person is on crack. many things can cause this kind of behavior. are you trying to strat rumors? feel righteous?

did any of you friggn' people think that he might have a medical problem, even if he might have been on something? obviously he needs help and thank goodness no one was hurt, as they could have been (or seems no one was hurt). so easy to jump to conclusions. this guy and his family are suffering big time so maybe hold off thowing stones before you know what's behind all this.

I'm in Texas and heard about the situation at least ten minutes before my friend saw the cops head into the building the guy was in...it does seem as if the cops should have been there sooner. People were Tweeting, Facebooking and writing on TigerDroppings about it immediately. Not one of them bothered to call the cops and explain the situation sooner than the cops claim? I obviously don't know anything for a fact...but I'm gonna call BS on that. Truly glad nobody was hurt. My sister saw it happen. It makes me upset LSU didn't send out an email or text. She and many other LSU students could have been hurt. Thank GOD they weren't, but it could have been so much worse.

Okay. I went to high school with this guy.. Was he mean or crazy? Not at all. He was a pot head!! I don't care who you are or what you like to smoke though, this is ridiculous. How were there no LSUPD who noticed the erratic, 50 mile an hour driving all over the parking lots and curb jumping BEFORE he even got to the quad?? I mean did this guy even get arrested??? Really, like I said, I don't care if you're some "nice," funny, pot head hippy guy and you were just a little effed up or whatever, this is absolute bullshit. It's dangerous. If this were say... 10 o' clock on Friday in the Fred's parking lot, it'd be a huge deal! Why isn't this a big deal? Fucked up at 9 in the morning and you end up in the quad. Really. Really?? LSU's statement is that the situation was dealt with and somehow or another they justify that whatever went on was "not a threat." How can they take such a calm, laid back approach to this? This isn't even about 'oh maybe he could have had a gun blahblah LSU should have let us know..' He was speeding through campus hopping curbs and practically running over people. I mean seriously, the behavior is unacceptable and LSU should be sternly reprimanding this person for this bullshit and kicking him out of school not "Hey, it's cool! No worries! ?We took care of it, he didn't have a gun so it's cool" It's ridiculous.

LOL at it being a djembe not a bongo!
We'll cut the Reveille some slack on that one...

And to "Anonymous" who is saying the Reveille released private information... you're just wrong. This students made a VERY public display that created a good bit of concern on campus. Students deserve to know what happened in this situation, and police only released information (or what's mentioned in this article) that's public record to anyone, not just journalist. And what private information was released anyway? His name? People pieced that one together pretty quickly when you're a red-head with dreadlocks.

20:53 - I would say it's not very private if he parks his car in the middle of the quad.

How could you possibly know response time of the police unless YOU actually made the call to the police department. I know for college students this should seem like a difficult concept to understand that while everyone stands around and says someone should call the police most likely no one did until three minutes prior to police arrival. Most people stare at a situation then think "hey someone should do something about this" then carry on their merry way. Then when police arrive and resolve the situation you come four hours later and say the police are incompetent even though you have no idea what actually occured. Maybe half of you should stop walking around like you are in a bubble and be aware of your surroundings and stop blaming police for your lack of common sense.

LSU PD and the Reveille has the right to release that information. Its a matter of public records and he is over 18.

LSU should have sent a text message. I was in the building where he was arrested. He came in calm with his dog. It was not for a man who saw him in the Quad and followed him to the design building and told us to evacuate the building he may not have been caught. I thank the administrators in the building for handling the situation. It took LSU PD a couple of minutes before they cuffed him. 3min may have been to the car but took a few more min. to have him cuffed

THIS IS INNAPROPRIATE OF THE REVEILLE TO RELEASE PRIVATE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS STUDENT, AND EVEN WORSE IS THAT THE CAMPUS POLICE RELEASED PRIVATE INFORMATION. SHAME ON YOU ALL FOR JUDGING SOMEONE YOU DON'T KNOW A THING ABOUT

i guess almost running over people as he jumped the curb/sidewalk in between lockett and allen isn't considered dangerous activity

Daily Reveille, if you have a first hand account and multiple other witnesses that says the LSU police did not arrive for 15 minutes or later please edit your story or at least do a follow up on this subject. This could have been a major safety issue.

not dangerous, not a threat? really? i was walking to class this morning and he was going about 50 mph through the parking lots, jumping curbs. i initially thought that maybe his breaks went out then i thought there there was no reason to be driving so fast in a parking lot.he came out of nowhere and I was 3 inches from getting hit and killed, he hit another girl making her fall down. why dont they interview the people that witnessed his wreckless behavior before he parked his freaking car.
