Student Government announced rock band Shinedown, former Outkast member Big Boi and Battle of the Bands winner Prom Date will play Groovin' on the Grounds March 20.

Melissa Guidry, SG director of student involvement, announced the lineup at noon in the Live Oak Lounge Monday with Students on Target members.

SG will pay $50,000 to Shinedown and $27,500 to Big Boi.

Biology sophomore Kayla Comeaux said Shinedown wouldn't have been her first choice.

"[Shinedown} is not really or me but I do like that they chose Big Boi and Prom Date," Comeaux said. "I think MGMT is a much more talented band personally. "

Samuel Gipson Wilson, Melomania was pretty good. You probably just didn't like them because there were black people in the band.

So LSU wants to reduce its reliance on the State of Louisiana, but its SG is paying nearly $80,000 to Shindeown and Big Boi? I smell a rat.
You Bayou boys and gals better follow the money!

Ya'll need to stop complaining, Atleast you are not having to come up with $50-$100 per person to go to a concert. It is FREE take and run with it. If you do not like the bands DO NOT GO! less crowds people have to worry about and all the drunk LSU students that all they want to do it drink and start fights! Pathetic! LSU is supposed to be party college of the south! We are not setting that example when students from out of town are coming to Orientation and campus tours to see if they really want to be at LSU! Be glad your parents are allowing you to come to this great school and have a good education! GREEDY PEOPLE do not get anywhere in life!

What if next year we scheduled a seminar on how to recognize an artist of integrity, just in case anything as remotely atrocious as this ever threatens our campus again?

I'm just glad they didn't pick a some headliner that would sing through a damn auto-tuner the whole time. Requires no talent whatsoever and for some reason it is popular. Shinedown is legit. Brent Smith has a huge range.

"...they are more talented than Lynard Skynard..."
You, sir, need to turn off your radio and learn something about music. I can say with full confidence that you are an idiot, a dolt, and a dweeb. You're perfect for politics!
Also--I've had the unfortunate experience of seeing Shinedown 3 times (festivals, playing with other bands), and they are a horribly bland 'band.' The only good act this year is Prom Date, a local act. Way to spend ~$80k, StuGov.

Shinedown is an amazingly talented band and anyone who thinks otherwise apparently has no taste in music. The man can sing his butt off. And for the simple man cover well, that was what put them on the map. Although its not one of my favorites they are more talented than Lynard Skynard "a band that my talentless, potheaded, no good, uncle worships." So, this concert will be amazing. Thank you very very much for getting Shinedown and Big Boi to attend this concert. Oh and cant people just be thankful that their parents can afford to send them to a school that can even put on a concert like this. NOOOOO!!!! People are so unappreciative.

Are you serious?!? Shinedown is amazing. Their concerts are gull of energy and anyone there regardless of if you like the music or not will have a good time. I think it's an excellent choice and I can't wait to be there

I quit listening to Shinedown when they decided to record an absolutely horrendous acoustic rendition of Lynyrd Skynrd's Simple Man. I could care less what the rest of their music sounds like after disgracing one of the best band's that ever played music.

I don't understand all the flack over Shinedown. Has anyone actually been to one of their concerts? They are really good. Plus, do we really want a convicted felon to headline our Spring Concert? Oh wait, Akon was last year, never mind.

At least Melomania wasn't picked. Thank god for small mercies.

P.S.

Shinedown sucks more than the sorority & NASCAR lovin' girls who worship them.
