Following strong public feedback, the University changed the name of its holiday focal point from "Holiday Tree" back to "Christmas Tree."

"We did hear a big response today from people wanting the tree to be called the Christmas tree," said Kristine Calongne, University spokeswoman. "We do take the public's consideration into account."

Calongne emphasized the University's commitment to diversity, mentioning other University pieces that celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.

"We want to do something nice for the holiday season, and we hope that people understand it's meant to be a positive thing" she said.
