Former LSU defensive back Phelon Jones has transferred to Alabama, the Mobile Press-Register reported Monday.

Jones started two games last season as a redshirt freshman for LSU and had 15 tackles. He played high school football at McGill-Toolen High School in Mobile, Ala.

"I just wanted to go somewhere in-state really, and Alabama was the best fit," Jones told the Press-Register. "They're going to have five of their top eight guys leaving next year. Everything's good at LSU; it just wasn't the right fit. I wasn't going to get as much (playing time) as I wanted."

LSU coach Les Miles granted Jones his release Thursday, and Jones spoke with Alabama coach Nick Saban on Monday, according to the Press-Register.
