  March 12, 2010: American Pie
MELANIE SCOTT / The Daily Reveille
I took this photo at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, La., during my friend's "away to boot camp party". This picture reminds me of when I was little and how the simplest outdoor things fascinated me and how they still do. I also thought the wind catching the streamers and the light captured the beauty of nature.
March 10, 2010: Black or White
HILARY SCHEINUK / The Daily Reveille
While on assignment regarding an update of the construction in the Student Union, I noticed how the lighting caused the workers in the TigerLair to become obscure shadow-figures.
  March 8, 2010: All Star
BRIANNA PACIORKA / The Daily Reveille
During the opening weekend, I noticed Leon Landry had shaved something into his hair, but I could never tell what it was. Three games later at Sunday's game against Brow, I finally figured out what he had shaved into his hair: his jersey number, six, surrounded by a star. This photo was shot at 1/4000, f2.8 and ISO 800.
  March 5, 2010: Free Bird
HILARY SCHEINUK / The Daily Reveille
While riding my bike to work today, I looked up and noticed a hot air balloon. It isn't normal to see hot air balloons around campus, so I snapped a photo.
March 4, 2010: Every Picture Tells a Story
J.J. ALCANTARA / The Daily Reveille
One of my assignments this week entailed me to photograph Mary Anne Frenzel's family's donation to the Hill Memorial Library. She had a collection of photographs and documents entitled the "Gebelin-Walsh-Hynes-Frenzel family papers," but this one photo struck me the most. It was a photo of two children by Andrew D. Lytle, a famous Baton Rouge photographer from the late 19th century. Lytle is well-known for his chronicling of life in the South, particularly the Baton Rouge area.
  March 3, 2010: The Sign
JAMES WEST / The Daily Reveille
On my way to an assignment, I set up my camera and saw this sign in front of me near Allen Hall so I snapped it a few times to get the correct settings. After getting back to the news room and having forgotten that I even took it, I took a closer look at the shot and noticed the amount of detail contained on this long forgotten, dilapidated sign. The worn away message, the googly eyes, the initals written in some sort of gooey substance, the rotting texture of the metal. It's things like this that make sure you REALLY keep your eyes open while walking around just to make sure you don't miss something forgotten.
March 2, 2010: Dark Side of the Moon
J.J. ALCANTARA / The Daily Reveille
Late Monday night right before I went to sleep, I received a text message saying there was an odd ring around the moon. I don't know why it happened, but it made for a great photo. This image was taken at 25 seconds, f/4 and ISO50.
  March 1, 2010: Blackbird
BRIANNA PACIORKA / The Daily Reveille
A small bird watches its surroundings while perched on a wire Sunday afternoon. This photo was shot at 1/3000, f2.8 and ISO200.
  Feb. 25, 2010: Life is a Carnival
HILARY SCHEINUK / The Daily Reveille
After parades came and went in Downtown New Orleans, there is still visible debris left over on the streets. There are plenty of beads to be had if you're willing to wash them. The shot was taken at ISO1600, f/4.0 and 1/60 with a Canon Speedlite 580EX mounted flash.
Feb. 24, 2010: You Are So Beautiful
NICOLE KARAMICHAEL / The Daily Reveille
The Wellness Education Department organized a fashion show to promote National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, and used student models of all sizes, color and gender. The show was titled I <3 Me. The shot was taken at ISO800, f/3.5 and 1/30.

Feb. 23, 2010: Danger, High Voltage
BRIANNA PACIORKA / The Daily
Reveille
The most ridiculous things tend to catch my eye when I walk to class every day. This danger-sign graffiti is one of them. This photo was shot at 1/250, f11 and ISO 320.
Feb. 22, 2010: Take Me Out to the Ball Game
J.J. ALCANTARA / The Daily Reveille
The 2010 college baseball season has started, and the No. 2-ranked Tigers lead off it off with a three-game series against Centenary. After a 5-4 scare Friday night, the defending national champions bounced back with a 25-8 blowout Saturday against the Gentlemen, then completes the sweep with a 4-0 shutout Sunday with sophomore transfer Joey Bourgeois pitching six shutout innings in his debut.
Jan. 19, 2010: The Magic Mirror
MELANIE SCOTT / The Daily Reveille
I've always been fascinated by ugly things being taken over by beauty,
such as abandoned buildings being taken over by nature. So when I was
walking past a drab puddle on extremely drab concrete, I quickly noticed
the blue sky and clouds being reflected. The beauty of the sky was such
a contrast to what it was surrounded by that i automatically took a
picture. The photo was taken at 1/800, f/5.6 and ISO800.
Jan. 18, 2010: Somewhere Over the Rainbow
J.J. ALCANTARA / The Daily Reveille
After watching the first half of the Saints-Cardinals game Jan. 16, I walked out of Walk On's Bistreaux & Bar and saw this beautiful rainbow. It was one of the very few times in my life I've seen a full rainbow, and not just a piece of one. This rainbow also had the full ROYGBIV spectrum. The image was shot at 1/400, f/4 and ISO800 using a Canon 5D Mark II with a 24-105mm lens. The Saints also beat the Cardinals, 45-14.
